About Josh

I was elected County Commissioner for Bedford County on November 3, 2015 and was sworn in on January 4, 2016. In this role, I serve as the Chairman of the Board of Commissioners, overseeing the day to day operations of Bedford County with my fellow Commissioners.

I am a native of Bedford County and graduated from Bedford high school in 2005. I graduated with academic honors and lettered all four years in cross country, track, and wrestling.

From a young age, I was instilled with the importance of hard work. I grew up in a blue collar working family. I was taught with hard work anything was possible.

While serving in the military and in Afghanistan I grew an even stronger love for my country. It was during this time in my life that I knew I wanted to live a life serving others.

As a Commissioner, I have continued my passion of being there for others. I listen; I place the needs of our citizens above my own. I make myself available to the community, and I work with both individuals and organizations to help move Bedford forward in our goals, and in a positive direction.

Military Service

After witnessing the horrific attacks of September 11, 2001 I knew I wanted to serve my country. I decided to turn down my acceptance into Shippensburg University to take the oath of enlistment to serve my country. I served in the U.S. Army as a 19 Delta Cavalry Scout with the 82nd Airborne Division, with a tour in Afghanistan for 15 months. While in Afghanistan, I conducted hundreds of combat patrols. I eventually earned the rank of Sergeant, where I was a leader and mentor to fellow soldiers. Following my Active Duty service commitment, I still had an urge to serve my country, which prompted me to enlist in the Pennsylvania National Guard in 2008, with the 2nd of the 104th Cavalry Regiment, where I served until 2011. While in the military I was awarded several distinguished awards including the Army Accommodation Medal and Combat Action Badge. In 2010, I had the honor of being named the unit's soldier of the year.

Veteran Advocacy

When I began college at Shippensburg University in 2009 I noticed the transition barriers and challenges that many veterans were facing. This led me to taking action by starting the Shippensburg Student Veterans Association. I worked with campus administrators to ease the transition of veterans from combat to college. Since the founding of the organization, Shippensburg now has a veteran’s resource center that assists veterans, service members, and family members to ensure they achieve their academic and career goals.

In November 2010, I was sworn in as the Pennsylvania Outreach Coordinator for Student Veterans of America (SVA), a national organization that provides the resources, support, and advocacy for all veterans to succeed academically and following graduation. Later, I was elected as the National Leadership Council’s Vice President in December 2011 by my peers. I helped to increase the number of student veteran’s organizations and the level of support for military student veterans across Pennsylvania and the country. I worked with legislators to spearhead legislation that increased the level of support for veterans on college campuses throughout Pennsylvania. In 2012, I had the distinct honor of being named the 2012 Student Veteran of the Year for the entire country.

Shippensburg University

I graduated from Shippensburg University in 2013 with a B.A. in Political Science. When I graduated, I began working as a Business Analyst and later worked in the technology field as a Senior Technical Training Specialist in the private sector. I continued serving in multiple roles serving veterans in the non-profit sector.
